What is the American Animal Hospital Association?
The American Animal Hospital Association, also known as AAHA, is the first and only accrediting institution for small animal hospitals in North America. It was founded in 1933 by veterinary experts who believed that veterinary practices could achieve a higher level of quality if they committed to meeting or exceeding certain standards. Spanning 18 different categories in veterinary medicine, approximately 900 different standards were established to guide doctors and their staff in making their practices the best they could be.
What makes accreditation special is that it is entirely voluntary. Any practice that has become accredited has chosen to go through this difficult process to better serve their patients and clients. Only about 15 percent of all animal hospitals in the US and Canada are AAHA-accredited.
What Our Accreditation Means for You
So what does our accreditation mean for you and your pet? Consider it a promise from all of us—a promise that when your pet is left in our hands, they will receive the highest level of care in all areas. AAHA sends consultants to our hospital every 3 years to evaluate our performance and make sure we're adhering to the approximately 900 AAHA Standards of Accreditation.
Being AAHA-accredited is the only way for an animal hospital to show that it is operating in accordance with the highest possible standards of excellence in small animal medicine. You can have additional peace of mind knowing that you've chosen a hospital that surpasses these standards.
